The Problem
A client had attempted to clean a small spot on their $6,000 hand-knotted Persian rug using a generic supermarket carpet foam. The high pH of the foam caused the dark red vegetable dye to destabilize and bleed into the white fringe and surrounding cream patterns.
Our Process
We carefully transported the rug to our facility. We immediately applied a specialized dye-stabilizing sour rinse to halt the migration of the red dye. We then used a specialized reducing agent specifically designed for natural fibres to carefully reverse the color transfer on the white fringes, followed by a full, pH-balanced submersion wash.
The Result
We successfully reversed the dye bleed, restoring the crisp lines of the original pattern and returning the fringes to a bright white without damaging the wool fibres.
