Removing Set-In Coffee Stains from Nylon Carpet

The Problem

An office manager contacted us regarding a large, dark brown coffee spill that had occurred three months prior. The stain had been scrubbed by the janitorial staff but had only spread wider and dried into a permanent-looking mark.

Our Process

Coffee contains natural tannins which cause yellow/brown staining. We applied a specialized oxidizing tannin remover specifically designed for coffee and tea. We used the 'tamping' method with a specialized brush rather than scrubbing, which prevents fraying the carpet. We then flushed the area with hot water extraction.

The Result

Despite being three months old, the tannin remover successfully oxidized the stain. The dark brown mark vanished completely without bleaching or damaging the surrounding carpet color.

"I thought we'd have to replace that section of carpet. Amazing job getting such an old coffee stain out." — Office Manager, Greenlane
